The bumper case gives you a non-slip grip and protects your phone if you drop it, but it doesn't offer any protection for the screen.
Book Case
Tucking your iPhone 5 inside a case that looks like a small book not only protects your phone but cuts down on your chances of theft, since no one will know that the book holds such a valuable device.
Since the book includes a cover, your screen is protected as well, which keeps it safe from accidental scratches when you carry the phone in your pocket, purse, or bag. There's also a nifty pocket to stash your credit cards, license, and cash. Who needs a wallet when you have an iPhone book case?
iPhone Pouch
A pouch offers protection for both the front and back of your iPhone 5. You can easily slip your phone in and out of the pouch, so it's easy to use the pouch when you need it or leave it home when it's too much extra bulk to bother with. The downside is that you have to keep track of the pouch, since it's not attached to your iPhone like a bumper case or a book case would be.
Clear Protection
For minimalists who only want protection from scratches, a clear, scratch-resistant screen protector and back protector offers a bit of extra protection without all the extra bulk. Keep in mind that a clear cover won't prevent damage from dropping your phone or other impacts. You'll need a case for protection like that.
