  • MacBook Pro Roundup: All You Need to Know About Apple's Newest Tech

    apple october release macbook

It’s been close to two years since the last MacBook Pro came out. Or any MacBook beyond that. Two years ago we were still ok with Frozen. We lived blissfully in the comfort of headphone jacks and had just been graced with the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. How the times have changed.

It’s been awhile since we had any new computers and Apple was due. They delivered not one but three. They've killed off the MacBook Air in favor of the Pro line. Why? The MacBook Pro line is thinner and smaller than the Airs... so yay?  We’ve rounded up all the facts you need to know, here. But first, a brief narration by the always wonderful, Jony Ive.

    MacBook Pros and Airs

The new Macbook Pro line is available for pre-order now and begins shipping in 2-4 weeks. The retail value will be between $1499-$2399. Both  are looking to be far sharper and improved versions of their older models and will run the newest MacOS Sierra.

What We Know About the New MacBook Pro Line

With many comparisons to the Retina display released last year, the MacBook Pro 13 and 15 feature new hardware and programming to set it apart from its successors. Beyond running faster and being thinner, there's plenty of new updates to get excited about. This includes everything from an interactive Touch Bar to 10 hours of battery life.

OLED Bar A.K.A. The Magic Keyboard

Far and above the rest, the OLED bar for the Macbook Pro is it's shining new feature. Named the ‘Touch Bar’ by Apple, it creates an interactive, easy-to-use function line at the top of the keyboard. The Touch Bar will change depending on which application you are using, and is easily adaptable. This is especially important for anyone who works in video/photo editing. You can also send emojis so it's a win-win situation all around.

Plus if you really hate the Touch Bar, you can purchase the 13" MacBook Pro with regular function keys for $1499.

    Touch ID

This opened up the door for Touch ID as well. Paying for items online via Apple Pay and signing into your accounts has never been more secure and easy. If you haven't set up Apple Pay yet, now is the time to do it. With extra security measures, it's one of the safest ways to buy online.

USB-C Ports and the MacBook Pro

    USB-C port MacBook

It happened with the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus and now it's happening to the MacBooks. The new laptop is saying goodbye to many of its integral ports. The USB-C ports have survived on, but you will need to purchase an adapter for anything behind that. While the loss of ports may cause a few difficulties, the faster processing capabilities will be worth it. This also means charging will be easier with access to four different ports to charge from.

The Holly Jolly Timing of the new MacBook Pro Line

With new processing capabilities, updated software and sleeker appearances, they’ll make any Grinch smile.

All the MacBook Pros are available to order today.  While you wait to purchase your new laptop, you can pick out a bag, case or sleeve from Pad & Quill to keep it safe and sound once it arrives. Plus, we’ve heard it can make a great incognito wrapping paper for even the most inquisitive of eyes.

  • The Apple Watch Can Spit Water and Watch Bands Are Keeping Pace

Here at Pad & Quill, we consistently strive to be Terminator of  Apple watch bands in terms of toughness and durability (not in terms of causing an evil apocalypse, though). With the introduction of the Apple Watch Series 2 and it’s ability to spit out water, there was some general excitement. However, most people were waiting for something bigger and reacted like this:

We here at Pad & Quill, however, were relieved and excited about this new tougher Apple Watch because it gave us a chance to design a tougher watch band that can handle  anything, from world travels to grocery store runs for more Halloween candy. • A Leather Apple Watch Cuff As Old As Time... Or At Least As Old As Elvis

  • When You Look At Me

    stand-out

Mr. PQ and I wish for the Quills to be well rounded and to neither hold back nor be held back from exploring all the facets of their personalities, strengths, and weaknesses. At times this has called for a little Mrs. PQ “mom nudge”, like signing the 5th grader up for tackle football league, knowing that linemen don't need so much coordination and team sports shouldn’t be defined by the ball hogs and the hyper-athletes who rule the soccer field at recess. • Won't You Be... My Neighbor?

    mr rogers neighborhood

Being a neighbor is somewhat inevitable; unless you are the Unabomber holed up in a remote cabin in the middle of nowhere. I think we can all agree that there are some neighbors we like to have close enough to wave to, but not so close that you need to actually talk to them, and some neighbors you would donate a kidney to, even if it’s for their 3rd cousin twice removed.

Be it the post-WWII tiny boxes neighborhoods or the post Y2K cubicle office spaces or the annoying people who insist you maintain them as a Facebook “friend”, you are going to have neighbors. Continue reading
